Instant Access to New York State, County and Municipal Records

"Publicly available records are a fundamental guarantee of our Freedoms & Democracy."
William Ratcher - Founder of

New York Public Records

The New York State Records website has a mission to provide every person with the right to seek out and obtain New York public records. This right is in accordance with the New York Freedom of Information Law, which specifies that all government information and records are presumed public: NYC Emergency Management - Freedom of Information Law Requests.

The goal of this website is to ensure all members of the general public the right to access New York state public records. This can be done without requiring a reason for accessing such information, or providing personal information, unless the requested information is confidential by law, either constitutional, statutory or by court decision.

New York State Records contain this information: Criminal Records, Court Records, Vital Records and State Background Checks; including over 180 million transparent public records.

New York public records are gathered from as far back as the year 1880 and includes information from 62 boroughs and census areas, thereby ensuring New York abides by the commitment of the United States of America to remain a “fair and just” society for all.
