Criminal Records

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services serves as the central repository for criminal history record information in the state. It compiles and maintains criminal records of convicted offenders in Nassau County and other parts of New York. Interested parties can obtain copies of their own records by submitting a request to the department. Records provide general information such as the individual’s name, date of birth, address, sex, race and the offense for which he/she was convicted for. Records may also include an SSN or NYSID number as well as details of the subject’s arrest.

To obtain a record, interested parties may be required to schedule a fingerprinting appointment with a recognized vendor. Members of the public will also be required to provide a copy of a valid government-issued ID.

How to Find Sex Offender Information

The New York Division of Criminal Justice Services maintains an online sex offender registry that contains public information on level 1, 2 and 3 sex offenders. Searches can be conducted by last name, zip code or county. Members of the public can also filter results to reveal offenders based on their custody status. The registry provides general information on sex offenders, including their known address of residence, work address, conditions of release and details of the crime they were convicted for. The registry may also provide additional information such as the offender’s vehicle information, photos, and any known alias(es).

How to Obtain Inmate Records

General information on inmates held in correctional facilities managed by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office can be obtained by mail, in person or by phone. Members of the public can also obtain inmate information using the county’s V.I.N.E service. Written requests should be sent to:

Nassau County Correctional Center

East Meadow, NY 11554

Jail Information

The Corrections Division of the Nassau County Sheriff’s department is tasked with the oversight of the Nassau County Correctional Center located at:

Inmates are allowed a maximum of two-person visits each week.

Court Records

Nassau County is home to multiple courts, including two supreme courts, a county court, a family court, a surrogate court, a county district court, and two city courts as well as town courts and village courts. Interested parties can request copies of records by submitting a request to the clerk at the courthouse where the case was filed. The Supreme Court has broad jurisdiction over most criminal cases while county courts have general jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases.

Members of the public can also search for case information online using the New York State Unified Court System. It provides public access to past and present cases filed at the civil Supreme Court as well as access to criminal court records. Searches may be based on the defendant's name, case number, or summons number.

In addition, the New York State Department of Health Vital Records Office maintains copies of divorce certificates for divorces that occurred in Nassau County and the rest of the state from 1963 till present. Unlike divorce decrees, divorce certificates only contain basic information, such as the date and place of the divorce and the name of the spouses. Members of the public can submit requests vial mail by sending a completed application form to:

New York State Department of Health
