Criminal Statistics

Crime data compiled by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services reveal that Saratoga County recorded a total of 2,795 reported crimes in 2017. It marked a steady decline from a total of 3,115 in 2013. Larceny and burglary were the most common crimes with 2,102 and 346 reported incidents. However, aggravated assault and rape were the most popular violent crimes with 159 and 82 reported incidents.

Although Saratoga criminal history records are collated and maintained by the office of the Saratoga County Sheriff, they can only be accessed by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Service. How to Get Criminal Records

Licensing entities and employers may request background checks and criminal history records by submitting a Request for Access to Criminal History Record Information application to the DCJS. This requires information about the subject as well as fingerprint submission (if applicable). Similarly, interested persons may request personal record reviews for personal use alone, from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. A government-issued I.D and $62 fee must be provided to process the request. Personal record reviews are delivered within 7-10 days of the request via mail only. These reports cannot be picked up in person or released to a third party.

How to find Sex Offender Information

The Saratoga County Sheriff Office maintains records of sex offenders residing within the county. Saratoga residents may obtain information about sex offenders on the Saratoga County Sheriff sex offender site. Offenders may be searched by name or location, and filtered by their proximity to specific addresses. Members of the public may also subscribe to the Sheriffs Office email notification feature which alerts members of nearby sex offenders.

Where and How to Get Court Records

The office of the Saratoga County Clerk functions as the clerk of the Supreme and County Courts, generating and maintaining court records of cases filed in all courts under its jurisdiction. The office provides public access to non-confidential court records such as civil court records, records of lawsuits, money judgments, foreclosures and so on. The office also maintains confidential records including divorce, adoption and guardianship records which are only available to eligible persons.

Non-confidential records may be obtained in person or online using the Saratoga County Clerk Online Records Archive. Online access typically requires that requesting parties register on the archive application page after which access will be granted by the Clerk's Office within 2 business days of the application.

Where and How to Get Bankruptcy Records

Saratoga Bankruptcy records are maintained by the Clerk of Courts of the Northern District of New York US Bankruptcy Court. Interested members of the public can however only access documents filed after December 2002. Requesting persons may query the Clerk's Office in person or via mail to obtain relevant records.

The clerk's office provides public terminals where interested persons may search for and print electronic copies of bankruptcy records at a $0.10 per page fee. This typically requires basic information about the record requested such as the name of the debtor and the date of the filing.

Written requests for records may also be sent to the Clerk's office along with a cheque or money order payment of 50 cents per page requested. Any written request must also be accompanied by the contact information of the requestor as well as a stamped, self-addressed envelope. The Clerk's Office is located at:

Vital Records

The New York State Department of Health is the primary custodian of all vital records of the state from 1963 to date. The department restricts access to these records to eligible persons.

Saratoga Vital records are co-managed by the county clerk and various town and city clerk offices. Thus, requesting parties may either query the department of health for a record or request the record from the office of the town or city clerk where the birth, death or marriage took place.

Where and How to Get Divorce Records

Records of divorces granted in Saratoga County are maintained by the office of the County Clerk. However, this is not a public record and cannot be accessed by members of the general public. Divorce records are confidential and can only be obtained by persons named in the record or their legal representatives. Eligible persons may request copies of divorce records by mail or in person.

Mail requests require a written and notarized application for the record, accompanied by a self-addressed and stamped envelope plus a check or money order payment to cover the certified copy fee of $5 ( for records up to four pages; and an additional $1.25 for more than four pages).

Where and How to Get Marriage Records

Saratoga County marriage records are available in the office of the town or city clerk where the license was obtained. Records can also be obtained from the New York State Department of Health. Copies of marriage records are not public records and can only be issued to either of the registrants or persons in possession of a New York State court order.

Requesting parties may make in-person queries or mail-in their request using the Mail-in Application for Copy of Marriage Certificate. The application should be completed, notarized and accompanied by the indicated ID requirements and fees and sent to:

Birth and death records are maintained and issued by the New York Department of Health. The Vital Records Certification Unit of the department only disseminates records to eligible persons which include: the persons named on the birth certificate and persons with a state court order or a direct relative of the deceased and persons certified by a New York State Court.

In addition to government agencies, county public records may also be obtained from third-party websites. These non-government platforms come with intuitive tools that allow for expansive searches. Record seekers may either opt to use these tools to search for a specific record or multiple records. Users are able to search third-party websites remotely for multiple records at a time with just the name of the record subject and their last known location, including the city, county, or state. How to Look Up Saratoga County Property Records

Property records are available online through the Saratoga County Assessment Database (SDG-Image Mate Online). The database contains information on all real property in Saratoga County, including tax maps, photos, and tax information. It also allows users to compare sale prices and assessments of similar properties using the "comparable sales" or "comparable assessments" tools.

Interested persons may specify a municipality, Tax ID, last and first names, street number, and street name. An Advanced Search option allows users to restrict displayed information to residential or commercial properties. Online records contain property information, owner or sales details, inventory, improvements, and tax information. Available specifics include deed and book numbers, total acreage, land assessment value, and a full market value.
