These represent a 4.2% dip in violent crime rate and a 24.3% drop in property crime rate compared to 2013 figures. A closer look at the county’s 2017 crime data shows that there were 24 murders, 211 rapes, 355 robberies, and 839 aggravated assaults reported. Incidences of property crimes include 1,744 burglaries, 7,146 larcenies, and 574 motor vehicle thefts.

Rape rate grew by 102.9% mostly due to the expanded definition of the crime in the years between 2017 and 2013. Motor vehicle theft rate increased by a modest 5.9%. Murder, robbery, and aggravated assault rates rose in Onondaga County by 4%, 24.3%, and 6% respectively. In the same period, burglary rate grew by 34% while there were 23.3% more cases of larceny.

Onondaga County Criminal Records

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) releases personal criminal history records upon request for all the counties in the state. To obtain yours, start by contacting MorphoTrust USA, a third-party vendor, about getting your fingerprints taken. Call (877) 472-6915 or visit www.uenroll.identogo.com to schedule an appointment. Provide the right service code for the records you want. This is 15464Z for a suppressed record and 15465F for an unsuppressed record. Bring a valid photo ID to your appointment (you can ask about what’s deemed a valid ID when making an appointment by phone or online).

The fee for this service is $62 payable by check, money order, or credit card. Make a check or money order payable to “Idemia”. The NYS DCJS returns background check reviews to requesters by US Mail. It takes 7 – 10 business days after receiving fingerprints from the third-party vendor.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office provides incident and accident reports to individuals involved in reported events. These are available for request in person and by mail. Visit or mail your request to:

Records Unit Records UnitOnondaga Sheriff’s Headquarters

Onondaga County Sex Offender Registry

The DCJS is responsible for maintaining the New York State Sex Offender Registry. The state’s Sex Offender Registration Act mandates this agency to provide the public with information about the statuses and locations of sex offenders living in all counties of the state. Publicly available data include zip code information for Level 1 offenders (low risk) and complete residence addresses of Level 2 (moderate risk) and Level 3 (most likely to re-offend) sex offenders.

Search the New York Sex Offender Registry by name and zip code. Make sure to select Onondaga from the drop-down county list to restrict your search to registered offenders living, working, and attending school in the county.
